It didn't understand what I said
- The Check and save screen shows what was understood: the item, the place as a path and the container. Tap any chip to change it, tap Deeper to add a level, or Type instead to type the whole thing.
- Say the thing first, then where it goes, with a short pause or "in" / "on" between the parts: "passport, hallway cupboard, top shelf, blue box".
- Speech recognition is your phone's own. If it keeps mishearing, check the phone's language and offline speech settings (Android: Settings → System → Languages → Speech; iPhone: Settings → General → Keyboard → Enable Dictation).
- The words you said are kept with the item under You said, so nothing is lost even if a chip was wrong.
The camera or microphone doesn't open
- Whereabouts asks for the camera the first time you tap Store and for the microphone the first time you hold the talk button. If you said no, turn them on under Settings › Permissions in the app, which opens the phone's settings for Whereabouts.
- You can always skip the photo and type instead; neither permission is needed to find things.
I can't find something I stored
- Search matches the name, the place and the container, and tolerates typos. Try a shorter word ("pass" for passport) or the place ("garage").
- Open Places and walk down through the tiles; every level lists what is stored there.
- If the thing was moved without telling the app, tap Moved it on it once you find it so the record is right next time.
I've reached 40 things
The free plan stores up to 40 things. Searching, moving and finding everything already stored keep working. To store more, delete things you no longer keep, or open Settings › See Pro plans.
Moving to a new phone
- Whereabouts keeps everything on the one phone; there is no cloud copy in this version. Settings › Your data › Export data (Pro) on the old phone writes a JSON file and a ZIP of photos you can keep. There is no import yet; the export is for safekeeping and for your own use.
- Whereabouts Pro follows your App Store or Google Play account. Open See Pro plans and tap Restore purchases on the new device.
Reminders are not arriving (Pro)
- Reminders use the phone's notifications. Check that Whereabouts is allowed to notify you (the app's Settings › Permissions opens the phone's page).
- Android: some phones (Xiaomi, Huawei, Samsung "sleeping apps") silence background apps; exclude Whereabouts from battery restrictions.
- Reminders are rescheduled after a reboot; open the app once if you restored it from a backup.
Switching appearance
Settings › Appearance: System, Light or Dark. System follows the phone's dark-mode schedule. Text size follows the phone's accessibility setting.
Cancelling Whereabouts Pro
- iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Whereabouts.
- Android: Google Play → profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Whereabouts.
- Cancelling stops the next renewal; Pro stays active until the end of the period you paid for. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google.
Deleting my data
Whereabouts has no account, so there is nothing to close. What is kept, and how to delete it:
- Your items, places, moves and photos live only on your phone. Settings › Your data › Delete all data removes all of them; uninstalling the app does the same. There is no copy anywhere else.
- The Pro purchase record (an anonymous device id and the subscription status, held by our purchase processor) stays until you ask. Email hello@apexvisionerp.com from the phone with the app installed; we delete it within 30 days and confirm by reply. This does not cancel a subscription: do that in Google Play or the App Store first (above).
- Anonymous usage statistics and crash reports, if you allowed them, cannot be linked back to you and are not kept beyond the processors' retention periods.
Something else
Write to hello@apexvisionerp.com. Including your phone model, OS version and what you said or typed when it went wrong helps.
